Kevin Locke performing his opening song

Last week, Wyndmere Public School was honored to have Kevin Locke come to our school and share his knowledge and talents with students and staff.  Mr. Locke is a world famous visionary hoop dancer, preeminent player of the indigenous northern plains flute, traditional storyteller, cultural ambassador, recording artist, and educator.  He spent the week teaching our students about flute playing and hoop dancing, with students 3-6 able to decorate and play their own flutes.  The week concluded with a community presentation where Mr. Locke told traditional stories, performed songs using various flutes, and presented his "easy" version of hoop dancing, which contained 27 total hoops.  We were also fortunate to have our Kindergarten Teacher, Mrs. Sheppard, and JoJo Segura present a traditional dance while wearing their jingle dresses.  It was a great event with a nice turnout.  Video of the presentation can be found on the Wyndmere School Youtube page.
